ABOUT PROJECT 1.27

Project 1.27 is a place where deep faith and a huge vision come together to fulfill the Christians’ responsibility to care for kids in foster care. We invite you to learn more about us.

VISION, MISSION AND VALUES

The vision of Project 1.27 is a family waiting for every child. No kid should ever have to wait for a foster or adoptive family.

The mission of Project 1.27 is to inspire, recruit and resource churches and families to foster and adopt the kids in their own backyard.

Project 1.27 believes in building relationships, God’s calling, a pioneering spirit, community, partnership, integrity, and hope in the fact that every child and youth deserves a forever home.

NO CHILDREN WAITING

“The body of Christ needs to come together to make sure there are no children waiting for homes in Colorado. It is a travesty that we have kids in our own backyards waiting for homes. That should never be the case.”
-Pastor Robert Gelinas

OUR HISTORY

In December 2004 there were 875 children legally available for adoption in the Colorado foster care system with no identified adoptive family. Knowing there were over 3,000 active churches in Colorado, Pastor Robert Gelinas of Colorado Community Church began speaking with the state government to see how Colorado churches could work to provide families for these children.

He explained, “The body of Christ needs to come together to make sure there are no children waiting for homes in Colorado. It is a travesty that we have kids in our own backyards waiting for homes. That should never be the case.”

Thus, Project 1.27 was born with the vision with a vision of “a family waiting for every child”.

Through the collaborative efforts of state and county agencies, churches and faith-based organizations like Project 1.27, the number of waiting children has declined to less than 200 in recent years. Hundreds of children have been served by Project 1.27’s Christian foster and adoptive families and cared for within Christian communities.

Today, the urgent need for well-trained, well-equipped foster families in Colorado and across the country provides an opportunity for Christians to offer love, hope and healing to children and parents impacted by generational trauma, substance abuse, broken relationships and isolation.

Project 1.27 is able to offer more than a decade of experience and learning to inspire, recruit and resource churches and families to successfully fulfill James 1:27  by caring for children in foster care, their parents, and the families who  foster and adopt. With a unique focus on on growing in faith, utilizing trauma-informed, relationship-based parenting strategies and   developing a strong support network, hundreds of Christian families are changing the outcomes for kids in foster care.

Through our work in Colorado, and the 1.27 National Network which supports similar ministries across the country, Project 1.27 continuously strives to achieve our vision of a family waiting for every child!

WHAT WE DO

Project 1.27 acts as a bridge between the church community and kids in foster care that need families.  Through the training and support of foster and adoptive parents, families are better prepared and encouraged throughout their journey. Project 1.27 also partners with local churches and agencies in order to recruit more families and smooth the way for parent certification.

Project 1.27 provides the following services:
  • Info Night meetings held across the front range
  • State-required, biblically-based training for Christian parents wishing to foster and adopt
  • Case Manager support throughout the foster and adoption process including completing required state paperwork and selecting an agency
  • Guidance for church leaders to create a foster adopt friendly ministry specific to their church
  • Coaching and encouragement for parents as they engage the foster care system
