Christmas Parties Across Colorado
December has been full of parties across the state of Colorado!
First, the Project 1.27 staff celebrated together in Frisco- the halfway point for Western Slope and Front Range staff. We had a great time laughing, eating, and reflecting on our favorite Christmas memories.
The NoCo crew partnered with Timberline Church Windsor to offer a special Christmas celebration for families with special needs. Participants could come early to the Friday evening event and partake in all the festivities without crowds and loud music. The sensory-sensitive children enjoyed the hayride, goats, and activities without feeling overwhelmed. It was a super windy and chilly evening, but four families came out to attend the sensory portion of the evening.
The next day, the Western Slope and Metro staff organized Christmas parties for foster and adoptive families. Project 1.27 on the Western Slope partnered with six local churches and 70 volunteers to host a Polar Express Respite Event. The scene was set after months of planning to offer a fun-filled day for kids where parents could drop and go without worry. Polar expressed themed rooms, golden tickets, tracks, conductors, fun activities and games, a photo booth, a real train ride, and a petting zoo in the parking lot were just a few of the highlights! 65 children and 31 families were served. Kids took home hats, bandanas, photos, handmade gifts, train whistles, polar express mugs, and a unique bell reminding them of God’s love for them. Every family was given a $50 gift card to help with holiday shopping and basic needs. Families, kids, and volunteers were all reminded of the true reason for the season! It was a lot of fun!
The Denver Metro party was hosted at Calvary Foothills Church and featured 25 volunteers and 100 participants. Families enjoyed making ornaments, playing games, watching a Christmas movie, and eating lunch together. While the kids were entertained, parents could sneak into the Christmas store and choose gifts for their children. The Ticket to Dream Foundation donated Crocs, Birkenstock slippers, Bomba socks, and Sephora make-up kits for families. Panera Share the Dough Foundation donated bikes and helmets. We had the Haven closet join us with new pajamas for everyone, and Foster’s Closet brought gently used clothes, toys, and books for families to choose from.
