WE CAN'T FIX EVERYTHING,
BUT WE CAN FIX DINNER.
Founded in 2017, the Neighbor Program (formerly Foster Together) connects participating kinship and foster families with their own volunteer “Neighbor.” Neighbors deliver meals, groceries, or care packages to one family for six months, building a friendship through encouraging notes and phone calls. This community support shows isolated, overwhelmed families, "You are not alone."
Acquired by Project 1.27 in 2023, the Neighbor Program compliments our church-based and mental health offerings. With a caring support system, kin and foster parents can continue providing the love their children need—adding a Neighbor’s protective layer of community support to the healing process.

INTRODUCTION TO THE NEIGHBOR PROGRAM
wHAT IS A NEIGHBOR?
A Neighbor is a volunteer who shows up at least once a month with dinner, groceries or a freezer meal for a kinship or foster family who needs support in raising children. Our volunteers build a friendship with their matched family, customizing their monthly deliveries to specific needs. We act as the matchmaker between volunteers and families, freeing you to build a happy, simple, supportive friendship that may last for years to come.
HOW DO I GET MATCHED WITH A Family?
If you are ready to volunteer, please fill out the Volunteer Application. Once you complete the training and background check, we will start looking for a match within 10 miles of you. Please email with any questions: [email protected].
HOW DO YOU ENSURE THE VOLUNTEERS AND FAMILIES ARE SAFE TO BE AROUND?
Each volunteer (or “Neighbor”) will be asked to complete a full background check. We require families and volunteers to undergo abuse prevention training through our web portal before being matched.
HOW MUCH FOOD IS EXPECTED EACH MONTH?
The minimum commitment a Neighbor makes is to drop off one meal per month. If we find a larger family match for you (6+ people to feed), we will confirm your ability to bring food for that amount of people before making the match. We ask our volunteers for a six month commitment. Feel free to get creative! If breakfast is more helpful than dinner, do that. If take-out is more appealing than homemade, you are welcome to pursue that route! Some Neighbors are willing to drop off more than once a month, but that is up to the Neighbor and family to decide. If you are a family, please be specific with your food preferences, allergies, and/or specific dietary needs so that the Neighbor can bring you food that works for your family.
WHAT IF i'M NOT A FOSTER PARENT?
At this time, we serve kinship and foster families through this program.
