STEP 1 | ATTEND INFO MEETING
Join us at an Info Meeting to learn more about the Colorado foster care system and Project 1.27. All are welcome to attend. Info Meetings fulfill the first two hours of state training, offered from a Christian perspective. Info Meetings are required to become a Project 1.27 family.
STEP 2 | SUBMIT AN INTEREST FORM
Take the next step; submit an interest form after attending an INFO MEETING an a Case Manager will reach out to you to talk through the full process and next steps.
STEP 3 | TURN IN COMMITMENT FORMS
Complete commitment forms and pay the $100 fee. This is the only fee paid to Project 1.27 and allows access to forms, training, and Case Manager support. There is no fee for Mesa County families.

Precertification #1– 12 hours
Precertification #2 – 12 Hours
Precertification #3 – 4 Hours
Reasonable & Prudent Parenting Standard Web-Based Training - 1.5 Hours
Support Group Visit – 1 Hour
CPR/First Aid Certification– 8 Hours
Precertification #2 – 12 Hours

STEP 5 | COMPLETE PAPERWORK REQUIREMENTS
Once you commit to becoming a Project 1.27 family, you will receive the link to the application packet containing all of the required forms for foster or adoptive parents from the Colorado State Department of Human Services. After completing these forms, they are submitted to your Project 1.27 Case Manager for review.
STEP 6 | SUBMIT COMPLETED PACKET TO AGENCY
After your Project 1.27 Case Manager reviews and formats your application materials, submit the completed packet to your selected agency, either a county or private.
STEP 7 | BACKGROUND CHECKS, HOME STUDY & INSPECTION
Your selected agency will complete background checks, a home study (face-to-face interviews), interviews with your children and/or adult children (if applicable) and a home inspection.
STEP 8 | CERTIFICATION BY AGENCY
If your family is approved, the agency will certify you to care for children in your home.
STEP 9 | CHILD PLACEMENT IN YOUR HOME
You are now able to receive foster or adoptive children in your home! Your certification agency will contact you with referrals of children needing a loving and well trained Project 1.27 home.
