THE TRAINING PROCESS

Project 1.27 has been approved to provide NTDC pre-certification training to families who are interested in becoming a certified foster or adoptive family. NTDC Certification Training for Colorado Foster and Adoptive Caregivers, is the preferred certifying
foster parent curriculum of the Colorado Department of Child Welfare. As a part of ourapproval, Project 1.27 will continue to provide biblically based training. This cutting-edge, comprehensive resource offers foster and adoptive caregivers culturally relevant education around child development and behavior, trauma-responsive care, the importance of maintaining familial connections, and the role of foster parents in the child welfare system.
Precertification #1 - 12 HOURS
This training focuses on the core competencies outlined by the Colorado Department of Human Services. Project 1.27’s FACT session is taught from a biblical perspective by experienced instructors, including choosing your certification agency; the court process; child abuse and neglect; child development; how abuse and neglect impact child development; ethnicity and culture; grief and loss; and discipline.
Precertification #2 - 12 HOURS
This training continues the NTDC modules while incorporating a a Biblically-based perspective that complements the competencies outlined by the National Training and Development Curriculum. Additional training includes sessions  taught from a Christian perspective by pastors, professionals, and Project 1.27 parent alumni.
Precertification #3 - 4 HOURS
All Project 1.27 families are required to bring at least four adult friends or family members to the Precertification #3 where we focus on developing a Support Team. The support you receive from your Support Team will make the difference between a thriving family and devastating isolation. Support Team Training provides: equipping your team with a realistic view of foster care; discussion around the impact and needs of your family; and practical team suggestions for supporting your family. Visit Family-Support Team for additional information.

SUPPORT GROUP VISIT - 1 HOUR
These folks are on the same journey of  fostering and adopting. They are the ones who “get it.”  Having adequate support is essential when fostering or adopting. All Project 1.27 parents are required to attend a support group session to understand the value of a support group.

REASONABLE & PRUDENT PARENTING - 1.5 HOURS
The Colorado Dept. of Human Services created a web-based training to equip foster parents to make decisions regarding their children’s safety, permanency, and well-being. The task is complicated for caregivers of children and youth in foster care given the number of laws, policies, guidelines, and rules that restrict activities and require potentially time-consuming approval processes.

CPR & FIRST AID
All foster and adoptive parents are required to be certified in CPR and First Aid including skills for infants, children, and adults. Parents should also inform the trainer that they are becoming certified for foster care. Click Here for a list of trainers in the metro area.
